A canal side deck grows a film you can slip on
Standing water two feet away keeps the boards damp through the whole season, and what grows there is not dirt, it is biological. It goes slick when it rains and it is the reason most of our first calls on the canals come in May rather than September.

Composite boards hold it in the grain
Trex and the rest are sold as maintenance free and they are not. The embossed grain holds spores, and a pressure wand furs the surface so it holds more next year. We clean composite with detergent and low pressure, which is slower and is the only thing that leaves the board intact.

The corridor behind the Nautical Mile is thick with condominium and apartment frontage, and a building takes a different plan from a house: a schedule that works around residents, a mobilisation that covers every elevation in one visit, and one invoice at the end of it.
